What this word asks of you

GATHER asks you to bring people together around something you are building. A project, a business, a community, a family tradition, a regular dinner. You have the ambition, and this year you realise you cannot do it alone, and you would not want to.

Gathering is an active word. It means inviting, organising, hosting, collecting. It also means gathering resources: skills, money, ideas, time. You are the one who brings the pieces together and makes something bigger than any of them. Expect a year of full tables, group chats with purpose and the satisfying feeling of watching a team work. You are a natural convener, and 2027 is where that talent pays off.

Your first three months

In January, decide what you are gathering for. A project, a community, a tradition, a business. Write it down in one sentence, and write the names of five people you would love involved.

In February, invite them. Host a dinner, set up a call, send a proper message explaining what you are building and why you want them. Start small: one meeting, one event. In March, make it regular. A monthly dinner, a weekly call, a quarterly gathering. Regularity is what turns a group into a community. By spring you should have a group of people who look forward to seeing each other because of you.

Your relationships

GATHER is a deeply social word. It asks you to invest in your people and to bring them closer to each other as well as to you.

Host more this year. Not perfect dinner parties, just regular, easy gatherings where people can talk. Introduce friends from different parts of your life. Bring family together for a tradition that has lapsed. If you are partnered, gather as a team: host together, build a shared circle. If you are single, being the person who gathers is a wonderful way to meet people, because everyone wants to be invited to your table. Just make sure someone gathers you sometimes too.

Your work

At work, GATHER means building teams and alliances. Bring the right people into your project. Build a network across the organisation or your industry. Start a group, a forum or a regular meeting where people can share ideas.

This is a year to lead through convening rather than command. You are good at seeing what each person brings and putting them in the right place. Use it. If you run your own business, gather a team, partners or a community of customers. Gather resources too: funding, tools, skills. By the end of 2027 you will have built something that is bigger than you, held together by the people you brought in.

A ritual to keep it

Hold one regular gathering throughout the year: the same day each month, the same simple format. A soup night, a walk, a book club, a call. Make it so easy that it never gets cancelled.

Keep a gathering book: a notebook where you write the date, who came and one thing that happened. Over the year, it becomes a record of your community growing. Once a quarter, invite one new person. At the end of 2027, host a big gathering of everyone who came during the year, and read out a few lines from the book. It will be one of the best nights you have ever hosted.
