What this word asks of you

EXPLORE asks you to follow your curiosity. Into a subject you know nothing about, a place you have never been, a question you have been avoiding about yourself.

You have a deep mind, and it has been underused lately. Maybe life got practical and busy. This year, give it room. Exploration is about depth and change together: going somewhere new to understand something better. It might be a course, a trip, a book list, a new hobby, a big question about your future. The point is to look beyond the edge of your map. You will come back with knowledge, stories and a clearer sense of who you are and what you want next.

Your first three months

In January, make a list of ten things you are curious about. Subjects, places, skills, questions. Do not judge them. Just write them down.

In February, pick three and take a first step on each. A book, a documentary, a visit, a conversation with an expert. Notice which one lights you up. In March, go deeper into that one. Sign up for a course, plan a trip, start a project. Exploration works best when you follow the energy. By spring you will have found one rich vein of curiosity, and the rest of the year can be spent mining it. Keep a notebook of everything you find.

Your relationships

EXPLORE in relationships means getting curious about people. Ask your friends questions you have never asked. Learn about your parents' lives before you. Find out what your partner is secretly fascinated by.

Explore new social worlds too: a club, a class, a group of people who share your new interest. You will meet people who see the world differently, and they will stretch you. If you are partnered, explore together: a trip, a course, a new hobby. If you are single, curiosity is wonderfully attractive. Ask good questions on dates, and listen to the answers. The people you get to know properly this year will surprise you.

Your work

At work, EXPLORE means widening your range. Learn about another department. Take a course in a new skill. Ask to join a project outside your usual area. Research the future of your field.

If you are considering a change, this is a year for exploring options before committing. Talk to people in roles that interest you. Try a side project. Take a short course. Read widely. You do not have to decide yet. You just have to find out. By the end of 2027 you will have a much broader view of your work and its possibilities, and you will be the person who brings new ideas into every meeting.

A ritual to keep it

Keep a curiosity notebook. Every week, write down one new thing you learned and one new question you want to answer. Carry it with you.

Once a month, spend a whole afternoon exploring something on the list: a museum, a library, a walk, a long article, a conversation. Treat it as an appointment, and guard it the way you would a meeting you cannot move. Go alone sometimes, and sometimes take a friend who asks good questions. At the end of the year, read back through the notebook. You will see how far your curiosity has taken you, and you will have a list of questions ready for 2028. Exploration never really ends. It just gets richer.
