Year word
BELONG
Your 2027 word is BELONG. You want to feel at home among people, not just next to them, and this year you find your place, settle in and let yourself be part of something.

Strengths
- You are loyal and committed when you find your people.
- You make others feel welcome and included.
- You value community, tradition and shared rituals.
- You know how much belonging matters, and you act on it.
- You bring warmth to every group you join.
Next level
- Belong to yourself first, so you are not waiting for others to decide.
- Try new groups, even if they feel uncertain at first.
- Let yourself be fully part of a group, not just on the edge.
What this word asks of you
BELONG asks you to find your place. Among people, in a community, in a home, in your own skin. Maybe you have felt a bit on the outside lately, or in between places, or not quite settled.
This year is about rest and connection together: the deep comfort of being part of something. Belonging does not just happen. It grows from turning up, again and again, until a place or a group feels like yours. It also comes from accepting yourself, so you can show up fully. This year, you put down roots in the right soil. By December, you will have at least one place where you feel completely at home.
Your first three months
In January, think about where you want to belong. A friendship group, a community, a club, a neighbourhood, a faith, a team. Write down two or three options.
In February, start turning up. Join the group, go to the event, introduce yourself. Go again the next week. Belonging is built through repetition, so commit to at least six visits before you decide. In March, contribute. Offer to help, bring something, take on a small role. People belong most where they give as well as receive. By spring you will start to recognise faces, and they will start to recognise yours.
Your relationships
BELONG in relationships means investing in the people who make you feel at home. The friend you can be completely yourself with. The family member who knows your history. The partner who feels like a place.
Make time for these people regularly, so the bonds grow deeper. Create shared traditions: a monthly dinner, an annual trip, a standing call. If you are single, focus on building a strong community of friends; belonging is not only found in romance. If you are partnered, build a sense of home together. And remember to belong to yourself. Be kind to the person you are, and let the right people see them.
Your work
At work, BELONG means finding a team or organisation where you fit. A place where your values match, where people know you and where you feel part of the mission.
If you already have that, invest in it: build relationships, join the social side, contribute beyond your role. If you do not, this may be a year to look for somewhere you belong more. It might also mean building belonging for others: welcoming new starters, creating a team ritual, making space for quieter colleagues. By the end of 2027, you will feel part of something at work, and that sense of belonging will make the work itself more meaningful.
A ritual to keep it
Choose one community and turn up every week, the same day, the same time. A class, a club, a choir, a walking group, a volunteering shift. Make it non-negotiable.
Each time, learn one person's name or one thing about someone. Write them down in a small notebook. Over the year, you will have a growing list of people who are part of your life, and the feeling of being known. At the end of 2027, look at the list. Those names are your belonging, built one week at a time. Bring a cake to the last session of the year.
