Which reindeer am I?
Your reindeer is the one whose energy matches the way you show up for Christmas: the first one out of the door, the one who starts the music, the one who notices who has gone quiet. The quiz works it out from ten small festive moments.
The eight names come from the 1823 poem that gave the world the sleigh, the rooftops and the stockings by the chimney. It calls the team by name in two galloping lines, and the eight names are known today as Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. Two hundred years on, they are still the reindeer everyone can recite.
The poem gives each of them a name and not much else, which leaves plenty of room. We have given each one a personality, and the quiz finds yours.
How the reindeer quiz works
You make ten picture choices, one at a time, each an original drawing made for this site. The scenes are small and familiar: the tree still in the car, the party, a job on Christmas Eve, someone quiet in the corner, your pace, your wrapping, the first snow, a toast, the group chat at seven in the morning, and how you leave.
We use our own proprietary structure: each pick adds a point to every reindeer it carries, and each total is divided by how often that reindeer appears across the quiz, so none of the eight wins just by turning up more. The highest score is your reindeer, and your runner-up comes along as a hint.
Answer quickly. The first option that makes you think "that is me" is the right one.
All eight reindeer explained
Here is every result you can get.
- Dasher: you are already at the door before anyone has found their coat. You carry the tree in, time the oven and leave first with the bags. Things get done because you have started them.
- Dancer: you make a corridor feel like a party. You choose the playlist, get everyone to look up when the snow starts, and keep the whole room moving in time.
- Prancer: you arrive looking like the evening was your idea. Your ribbons are slightly extra, you take the long way for the lights, and you can turn a walk home into a procession.
- Vixen: you notice who has not been spoken to, and you fix it. You refill a glass before it is empty, find the hat someone lost, and check the kitchen before you go.
- Comet: you turn a small plan into a story people repeat. You start the game, write the joke on the gift tag, and give the toast that gets the biggest laugh.
- Cupid: you remember the person everyone else forgot to include. You sit down next to the quiet one, name every person in your toast, and wrap presents in the paper they love.
- Donner: you keep the group pointed the right way, kindly. You handle the directions, send the plan the night before, and make sure nobody is left behind on the walk.
- Blitzen: you bring the spark when the room has gone polite. You find the good speaker, make the corner the interesting place to be, and send affectionate chaos to the group chat.
What your runner-up reindeer says
Your runner-up shows the second side of your Christmas self. A Dasher with a Donner hint is the organiser who also makes sure the plan is kind. A Dasher with a Comet hint is first out of the door and already telling the story of it.
The pairs tend to cluster into three herds. Dasher and Donner are the doers who keep everything on track. Vixen and Cupid are the carers who make sure everyone feels included. Dancer, Prancer, Comet and Blitzen are the spark, the ones who make the night memorable. Your runner-up tells you which herd you lean into when your main reindeer takes a rest.
How to play it with friends and family
The reindeer quiz is made for groups. Send it round the family chat, the office party or the friends you see every Christmas Eve.
- Guess your own reindeer first, then take it.
- Guess everyone else's, then compare. Expect debate.
- Count your team. Eight people can make a full sleigh, and you can see which reindeer your group is missing.
- Pair it with the Christmas guest quiz to find out what role you play on the day itself.
If nobody in your family gets Donner, someone needs to take charge of the directions.
Which reindeer leads the sleigh?
In the poem nobody is named the leader, and that is the point: a sleigh only flies when all eight pull together. Each reindeer leads in a different moment of the night.
Dasher leads at the start. When the bags need packing and the car needs loading, Dasher is already halfway down the path. Donner leads on the route, keeping the group pointed the right way and making sure the pace suits everyone.
Vixen and Cupid lead the people. They notice who is cold, who is quiet and who has been left out of the photo, and they quietly put it right. Without them a Christmas can run perfectly and still feel lonely for somebody.
Dancer, Prancer, Comet and Blitzen lead the magic. Dancer sets the rhythm, Prancer sets the scene, Comet tells the story and Blitzen lights the spark when the evening starts to flag. They are the reason anyone remembers the night at all.
So whichever reindeer you get, you have a moment when the whole team follows you. Your result tells you which one it is.

The 8 results, and what each one means
- DasherYou are already at the door before anyone has found their coat. You carried the tree in from the car, the oven is timed, and you are quietly wondering why everyone else is still looking for their keys.
- DancerYou make a corridor feel like a party. You put a song on before you carried in the tree, you know every word, and somehow everyone is moving by the second chorus.
- PrancerYou arrive looking like the evening was your idea. Your ribbon is slightly extra, your coat is excellent, and you suggested the long way home for the lights.
- VixenYou notice who has not been spoken to, and you fix it. You refilled the glass before it was empty, found the lost hat, and quietly made sure everyone felt part of the evening.
- CometYou turn a small plan into a story people repeat. You started the game, sent the chaos to the group chat, and somehow a walk to the shop became the best night of the year.
- CupidYou remember the person everyone else forgot to include. You named every person in your toast, chose the paper they love, and quietly made sure nobody spent Christmas feeling alone.
- DonnerYou keep the group pointed the right way, kindly. You had the directions, checked the oven, gave a toast that was short, warm and on time, and made sure everyone got home.
- BlitzenYou bring the spark when the room has gone polite. You found the good speaker, made the corner the interesting place, and turned a quiet walk into a procession.
